Get Soul (Freedom Rains) ©2016 Billy Glover
Freedom Shines Freedom Rains
You say that you was born to be free
But you’re living in a society
The steps that we take on this day
Do they take us much closer? Get Rhythm Get Soul
Freedom Shines Freedom Rains
Participation can take its toll
Hide away - You could lose your soul
The steps that we take on this day
Do they take us much closer? Get Rhythm Get Soul
Freedom Shines Freedom Rains
A time to speak and a time to hear
A time to act and fight the fear
The steps that we take on this day
Do they take us much closer? Get Rhythm Get Soul
Oh Oh Oh Get Soul Oh Oh Oh Get Soul
Freedom Shines Freedom Rains
The people who we will become
Our sons and daughters remake our home
The steps that we take on this day
Do they take us much closer? Get Rhythm Get Soul
Oh Oh Oh Get Soul Oh Oh Oh Get Soul

Road to Whimsey

Road to Whimsey ©2015 Billy Glover
1) Woke up this morning and started walking.
Following my nose. Gonna see where it goes.
2) Turkeys and squirrels talking just like girls.
Moose and goose were on the loose.
3) Saw some signs of bear. Deer was everywhere.
Dust from the gravel road don’t bother me.
Ch: 40 miles of wilderness, on my mind. 40 miles of heartache, in every direction.
40 miles. 40 miles. To Whimsey. 40 miles to Whimsey.
4) At 4am I heard the chorus. At 7 it was sounding good.
By nine, it was fine. And eleven was just okay.
5) When 7 came around again, I think I found a friend.
The road brought me here to Whimsey.
Bridge:
And I’m happy to see your face. It’s a handsome, beautiful, rugged, remarkable face.
But I never knew how it happened.
The story of the people you have knowed.
The wins and the losses. The children and the bosses. The gut of who you are.
Do you know what happened?
Ch: 40 miles of wilderness, on my mind. 40 miles of heartache, in every direction.
40 miles. 40 miles. To Whimsey. 40 miles to Whimsey.
coda: Feeling kind of cocky. Had a bite of jabberwocky.

A Seasoned Man

A Seasoned Man ©2015 Billy Glover
V1:
A seasoned man a seasoned man
a seasoned man was he and free
He lived a life many would envy
but very few would choose
He was a man of the road
so very happy just to be
V2:
A seasoned lady a seasoned lady
a seasoned lady was she and free
She was so well respected
so very proper in every way
she was a pillar of the community
and very happy just to be
V3:
A seasoned man a seasoned lady
they met one night in the cool summer breeze
now you can think what you will
you know the evening brings the shadows
and very many things that they shared
so very happy just to be
The road behind is gone
The road ahead is wide
A shooting star falls from the sky
so very happy just to be

Even if the Heart
04:04
|

Even if the Heart ©2016 Billy Glover
Even if the heart of a man is hard
There’s a flame that burns down deep
And I know that the heat that binds us together
Shall be driven from asleep
There is a road to the future
And a window for the past
I keep my eyes on the horizon
As we stand before the mast
When I’m tired and hungry I can be a bear
All the news descending Weeping ‘cause I care
In the middle of the night when the heart can struggle
And when freedom is drawing near
We shall find our redemption
And release the heart from fear
Diverse opinion Dissatisfaction too
Raise up your voice won’t you
Change in direction and change in speed
Raise up your voice Feel the need
Even if the heart (Even if the heart)
of a man is hard (of a man is hard)
There’s a flame that burns down deep
And I know that the heat that binds us together
Shall be driven from asleep
Shall be arisen from asleep

See the Fire

|

See The Fire ©2016 Billy Glover
V1 I am sitting in the wind. Like a flag, I am burning.
I am rolling off a rock. Like a wheel, I am turning.
Can I make an ember glow? Do I know which way to go?
There’s a race to the other side. It’s a place I cannot hide.
Chorus:
Maybe then I’ll see the fire.
Maybe then I can show my face.
Maybe then I’ll call out the liar.
V2 I’m standing on the brink. My decision and a yearning.
I’m stepping into space. No return from the learning.
Will the effort win a prize? Little visions in my eyes.
Will the staircase now ascend? Or dissolve from within?
<Chorus>
Bridge:
Shout, if you feel the need. Laugh, if you need relief
Cry, if you see the tears. Sing, if you need release.
Cut, to free the shackle. Bridge, to lead the way.
Point, in a new direction. Love, is what we say.
V3 On a wire in the balance. I am high without a net.
I’m suspended. Now it’s ended. I am placing every bet.
The fire there that’s growing, has me smiling like a cat in a tree.
The smoke of my beginning builds desire to be free.
<Chorus>
<Bridge>
<Chorus>
<Chorus>

Silver buttons crisom stitches
leather boots cotton britches
cambric shirt silken skirt
Love it hurt when you go
(Chorus)
V2:
Dancing Ocean lover's potion
sandy shore a distant war
this is life and there's something more
tell me why must you go?
(Chorus) + Instrumental Chorus
V3:
And when you go I'll be on my own
I'll be here but I won't be alone
If you think of me we will carry on
Love it hurt when you're gone

Thinking ‘Bout John Prine ©2014 Billy Glover
I was Thinking ‘Bout John Prine last night – I was Thinking ‘Bout John Prine last night
John Prine songs are like that. They get stuck up in your head. Yeah.
I was Thinking ‘Bout John Prine last night
I was humming a little tune out loud – yeah I was humming a little tune out loud
A song without no words and it sounds just like a bird
I was humming a little tune out loud
And I had myself a great big revelation – well, to me it was a bit of a surprise
A story with a twist is just like a really good first kiss
It takes you to a place, if you close your eyes
“close your eyes”
Like Donald and Lydia, and good ole Sabu
The Angel from Montgomery, and the Six O’Clock News
We are Living in the Future, In Spite of Ourselves
It’s a happy enchilada, make the World Go Round
“take it ‘round”
When the bell goes “ring”, I jump outta bed
The radio “on” and I hit the head
I walk right thru the shower, and then I shave my face
When the bell goes “ring”,……
The radio’s on….
It sounds mighty fine…
Cuz they’re playing ….
John Prine.

Walkaways and Runaways

Walkaways and Runaways ©2015 Billy Glover
V1:
Late at night when you’re on your own
and you’re walkin’ down the street
You should know you’re not all alone
just ‘cause you’re walkin’ down the street
V2:
Walkaways Runaways
and never been at homes
Talked too much and never spoke
and always on the roam
Chorus:
Many faces
Many places
Some hard cases there will always be
Bridge:
Look around and take it to heart
Take your hand and give it a start
you’re not always looking down
someone is always around
V3:
In the morning when you wake
if you’re lying on the street
nothing left not even cake
‘cause you’re lying on the street
<Chorus>
V4:
Walkaways Runaways
and never been at homes
Talked too much and never spoke
and always on the roam

A 65 Mustang

|
|||
A 65 Mustang ©2015 Billy Glover
(V1)
65 Mustang was all he had
and 23 bottles of beer
Nobody cares where he’s going
All he knows is “he’s outta here”
(V2)
Accumulated all of his fortune
Had a dream about making it big
Nobody cares where he’s going
Nobody cares what he did
(V3)
There’s something exciting about it
There’s something depressing as well
And you know that you’re gonna watch it
even though the acting is hell
(V4)
“Root” 66 or Route 52
You know it doesn’t matter at all
The drama is slow and slightly off cue
Re-runs occur in the Fall
(Bridge)
It’s an American movie and it’s got no soul
It’s a vehicle for making a buck
I shouldn’t be so cynical
You know that everybody makes their own luck
(V5)
A rock n roll hero off on his own
Its so big on the screen
Got no cause. Standing alone
Yah, tribute James Dean
(V6)
65 Mustang was all he had
and 23 bottles of beer
Nobody cares where he’s going
All he knows is “he’s outta here”

Walter and Victoria

|
|||
Walter and Victoria ©2016 Billy Glover
Let me tell you the story of Walter and Victoria
Traveled to Italia; A holiday in love
Wandered down to Tuscany, looking for victory
Stood inside the ruins and pondered destiny
Went to see old David
standing there in stone
A fine young man
standing alone
The cobblestone street. A colorful suite.
The best of friends, they never missed a beat.
If you are in love
or if you’re not
Listen to this story.
Think of what you’ve got.
Hey (hey) think of what you’ve got.
If you’ve ever pondered destiny or stood inside a ruins
Open up to victory
Open up to victory
It’s in your heart
If you’ve ever pondered destiny or stood inside a ruins
Open up to victory
Open up to victory
It’s in your heart
Then you’ll know the story of Walter and Lady Victoria.

Time is Just a Soldier ©2016 Billy Glover
V1:
There’s buzzin’ in the night, safely out of sight.
I feel a strange vibration. Something isn’t right.
V2:
The crickets thru the window, see the twinkle of the stars.
Tears fall in the shadow. Silence now I know.
Refrain:
You know I/you/we can’t be traded. You know I/you/we can’t.
You know I/you/time won’t be evaded. You know I/you/she won’t
V3:
One vision to remember. A picture in my mind.
Reflection of September. When everyone () and everything () was fine.
<Refrain> “you”
V4:
Time is just a soldier. With borders never known.
Directly moving forward. No matter how you’ve grown.
<Refrain> “we”

Mississippi ©2016 Billy Glover
V1:
Mississippi is cold in the summertime.
Minnesota is warm come December 9.
New York City is a country scene.
Paoli, Indiana is the place to be seen.
Chorus:
Things got a little mixed up when I was writing this tune
I wrote in the car (that makes it a cartoon)
Things got a little mixed up when I was picking this song
Some of it’s right, but mostly it’s wrong
V2:
Don’t you listen to any old Jack. He tell you what to do.
And don’t you follow just because it’s new
You must decide what you’re gonna do.
Don’t believe what you know ain’t true.
<Chorus:>
V2:
Love! -- something you can buy on the street
Money! -- gonna make you complete.
Down! -- is upside down.
Pills! -- gonna bring you ‘round.
<Chorus:>
Break:
Chorus:
Things got a little mixed up when I was writing this tune
I wrote in the car (you know what that makes it)
Things got a little mixed up when I was picking this song
Some of it’s right …
Some of it’s right…
Some of it’s right, but mostly it’s wrong

Jamie Boggs

|
|||
Jamie Boggs ©2016 Billy Glover
V1:
Jamie Boggs was on the train
that left here late last night
Jamie Boggs up and left it all
A job in Alaska? That’s not right.
He was the head janitor at Otterbein high school
a very well respected man
He had his own house with his own back yard
which was right next to two others
which were right next to two others
V2:
(they say that) Jamie Boggs was due for a raise
of fifteen cents on the hour
(but) Jamie Boggs up and left it all
He rejected financial power
He was the head janitor at Otterbein high school
He will be hard to replace
and no one ever understood why he left our town
I guess he just couldn’t stand the pace
V3:
Jamie Boggs, he never said goodbye
He just slipped out when darkness fell
And Jamie Boggs is livin’ off the grid
He will long be remembered well
He will long be remembered well
He will long be remembered well
I remember Jamie Boggs
“Livin’ off the grid was what he did”
